But as we age, that changes somewhat we realize that there is no real magic, that Christmas comes with its own financial and time pressures.
The problems we had in November do not vanish during December.
After we live a while, we will undoubtedly go through some Christmas seasons where we don't feel like celebrating too much.
Maybe it is because the family gathering around the turkey really does not get along that well. Maybe it is because of a health situation or unemployment. When facing real problems, we soon realize that Christmas lights and decorations can at best mask the pain. We have our individual problems today, but believe me, times as a whole were way worse back when those songs were written. Out of dark times have come those songs. Out of those times, we see real joy.
When we are in dark times and struggling to find any desire to celebrate Christmas, tinsel and lights won't do it for us. Only Christ will. The simple truth of Christ coming to earth is a reason for jubilant celebration regardless of the problems we face today.
Enjoy life to the fullest, the first step is actually to keep our body and mind in tip top condition.
"Excellence is not a singular act but a habit.
We are what we do repeatedly.
Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot,
but make it hot by striking."
Merry Christmas
