Communicate Effectively for Success

Communication is a process by which information and understanding are transferred between a sender and a receiver.

70 to 90% of our time everyday are spent on communication.

Open communication means sharing of information throughout the company, especially across functional and hierarchical levels.  People need a clear direction and an understanding of how they can contribute.
Open communication is essential for building trust and it paves the way for more opportunities to communicate with followers, thus enabling the organization to benefit from of the minds of all its employees.

Active listening is a critical component of the tasks facing today's leaders.
It is neither an optional component nor a nicety to be used to make others feel good.
It is through listening and discernment both with followers and customers, that leaders identify strategic issues and build productive relationships that help the organization succeed.

Discernment involves, detecting the unarticulated message hidden below the surface of spoken interaction, complaints, behaviour and actions.

There is a distinction between a Dialogue and a Discussion.
A dialogue is an active sharing and listening in which people explore common ground and grow to understand each other and share a worldview.

Managers must employ motivational communication when speaking to their subordinates.
This will inspire confidence and enthusiasm.

If we want to increase the probability of a performance breakthrough and success, avoid following negative statements which doubt a person's ability and discourage motivation ...

"Are you sure you can achieve it?"
"This seems to be an impossible target for you."
"I hope you won't disappoint us again."
